A friend once said that his family usually had at
least one member on either side of the bench. All of us should have
the sense of humour and honesty that this judge had. Too often the black sheep are written out of genealogies, but this should not be done...especially in print. Family records need to be accurate for many reasons, and usually are less dull for their accuracy.
Family histories do not need to be dull at all. Favorite family stories should be included and if there are conflicting versions, include both. The truth is often somewhere in the middle.
Don't wait to get started, because many memories will be forgotten by your elders if you proscratinate. My great aunt had traveled by stage coach from the east coast to the west coast when she was sixteen, but that's all I know about her trip because she couldn't remember by the time I was curious.
